Novatek CEO says Spanish cos may sell LNG from Arctic LNG-2

MOSCOW, May 29 (PRIME) -- Spanish companies are interested in taking part in sales of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to be produced at the Arctic LNG-2 project of Russian independent gas producer Novatek, CEO Leonid Mikhelson told reporters on Monday flowing a meeting of the Russian–Spanish intergovernmental commission.

“Spanish companies are interested in sales of products in the first place. They are more interested in joint sales,” he said.

Novatek also sees interest from engineering companies and suppliers of equipment. “We will give them an opportunity to take part in supplies,” he said.

Russia’s Energy Minister Alexander Novak told PRIME in an interview published May 26 that Spanish companies are considering participating in the Arctic LNG project.

The Arctic LNG-2 plant will be launched in 2022–2025 and fields of the Gydan Peninsula in the north of West Siberia will become its resource base. In February, Mikhelson said that the plant’s annual production capacity might exceed the capacity of the Yamal LNG plant, seen at 16.5 million tonnes, by 10–15%.
